Afro Fashion, a Volunteer-Led Non-Profit Organisation Based in Milan & Cameroon, Introduces a Networking Platform for Multicultural Professionals

The Afro Fashion Association has created a new platform to connect professionals with a multicultural background in Italy with worldwide enterprises across all industries.

Michelle Francine Ngonmo, founder and president of the Afro Fashion Association, established the platform with support from Vogue Italia and Made in Italy (WAMI) to bring visibility to the pool of talent in Italy who frequently face systemic barriers that limit their visibility during the job selection process.

The website, dubbed The Unseen Profiles, has partnered with businesses that have committed to expanding cultural contributions in the workplace. Its inauguration coincides with Italy's beginning of conversations about the paucity of employment prospects for people from heterogeneous backgrounds.

A growing number of organisations and movements have taken the lead in the discourse, with many aiming to increase exposure and opportunities for persons facing such obstacles.

The platform's job posting part seeks to serve as a hub for professionals and businesses, complete with CV screening services to ensure the best potential outcome for candidates. Businesses can gain access to the posts through customised subscriptions, the profits of which will benefit the Afro Fashion Association's efforts.

Ngonmo further stated that one of the primary reasons for establishing this type of platform was to address the changing demands of businesses and professionals in the fashion industry today. The platform's goal is to showcase valuable profiles in order to increase prospects for businesses who are adjusting their structures to new circumstances. As is the case with every crisis the world of labour is obliged to radically reinvent itself in order to meet the difficulties of digitalisation, sustainability, and multiculturalism, all of which are already having a dramatic effect on many industries.
