Nike Says Just Do It With Sustainable Happy Pineapple Collection Made From Pinatex

Intro

The terms sustainability as well as sustainable luxury are gaining a lot of attention from some of the biggest enterprises on the planet. Thankfully many companies have also started taking the right set of actions when it comes to sustainable business practices.


One of the most admired sportswear companies, Nike has recently introduced the Happy Pineapple collection wherein shoes are made up of piñatex in place of leather.
With this big stride towards sustainability and the Happy Pineapple collection, Nike has become one of the first major brands that have applied piñatex to create its shoe designs. This sustainable shoe collection offers 95% renewable resources and of course a fantastic performance.


The Happy Pineapple collection has five sneaker editions that include the following:
Free Run Trail Premium, the Air Max 90, the Air Max 95 and the Air-Zoom Type. The shoes are extremely attractive as they have juicy colours and creatively embedded pineapple designs the tongue of the amazing set of Nike shoes.

What is Pinatex?

 Hailed as a truly innovative new age sustainable material, Piñatex is an option for natural leather. Created from cellulose fibers extracted from pineapple leaves, PLA, and petroleum-based resin, Pinatex has superb qualities that make it extremely useful for various applications. Dr Carmen Hijosa actually developed and it is manufactured by a company called Ananas Anam.


Apparently since its inception Ananas  Anam has ensured the non-burning of almost 825 tons of leaves by using the waste of pineapple harvesting. It has thus managed to prevent almost 264 CO2 eq tons being released into the atmosphere.


Conclusion

All in all this super step from a highly respected global company like Nike will surely encourage many more brands including luxury brands to start practicing sustainability in their manufacturing processes too. With sustainable luxury becoming the buzz word, it will not be long before many luxury brands across the globe start applying the principles of sustainable luxury to their businesses as well.
