Stuttgart Based Daimler AG Formally Renamed to Mercedes-Benz AG From 1st February 2022

On February 1, 2022 Daimler AG has been renamed Mercedes-Benz Group AG, a move that the company's CEO believes would unleash shareholder value for the premium manufacturer. This rebranding is the latest in a series of recent changes at the carmaker, which began in 1926 as Daimler-Benz AG.

Mercedes, named after the daughter of an automobile entrepreneur, is believed to have been formally adopted by Daimler AG in 1902.

Mercedes-Benz AG is aiming for a greater valuation as it invests heavily in technology and electrification.

Mercedes-Benz AG formally rebranded its passenger vehicle and commercial van operations as Mercedes-Benz AG on February 1, 2022. This follows the December 2021 separation of Daimler's truck and bus operations into a new entity called Daimler Truck AG.

Mercedes-Benz AG presently includes the Mercedes-Benz automobile and van brands, as well as Smart, as well as a variety of sub-brands such as Mercedes-AMG, Mercedes-Maybach, Mercedes-EQ, and G.

In 2019, Daimler (as the company was once called) sold 50% of Smart to Geely. Geely will create and manufacture the next generation of Smart vehicles in China for worldwide consumption as part of the transaction.

Ola Källenius will serve as chairman of Mercedes-Benz AG's board of management and as chairman of Daimler Truck AG's supervisory board.
