PAYAL KHANDWALA Presents BOMBAY - A Cinematic Ode to Mumbai and the Brand's Universe

A Film, A Vision, A Love Letter to Mumbai

Mumbai, 25th August 2025 - Acclaimed contemporary design studio Payal Khandwala unveils BOMBAY, a short film that reimagines the city in a way never seen before. Powerful, elemental, and poetic, the film is an invitation into the brand's universe - one that is rooted in architecture, nature, stillness, and unapologetic individuality.

This cinematic venture reflects the growing trend of Indian luxury fashion brands capturing global imagination through innovative storytelling and visual narratives.

The Essence of BOMBAY

Created in collaboration with Dot Films and set to an evocative operatic score by composer Tajdar Junaid, BOMBAY deliberately strips away clichés and tropes that have long defined cinematic portrayals of the city.

Instead, each frame appears like a carefully composed photograph: intentional, precise, and profound. Brutalist and Art Deco landmarks stand alongside coastal landscapes, creating a backdrop of vastness against which the Payal Khandwala woman moves with grace, poise, and strength. Her clothing becomes her armor: timeless, versatile, and rooted in elegance.

The film celebrates India's glorious textile diversity while positioning it within a contemporary, global context that speaks to modern sensibilities.

More Than a Film — A Window to the Brand

BOMBAY is not only a portrait of the city but also a note on the Payal Khandwala design lexicon:

  • Architecture meets textiles - sharp silhouettes infused with India's textile heritage
  • Stillness meets strength - garments as modern armor, prioritising freedom, comfort, and individuality
  • Photography and film as extensions - visual languages integral to the brand since inception

Available to view across all Payal Khandwala channels from 25th August 2025, the film invites audiences to see Mumbai and the brand through a fresh lens. This approach aligns with the evolution of Indian luxury fashion that embraces both heritage and innovation.

About PAYAL KHANDWALA

Founded in Mumbai's Colaba by artist and designer Payal Khandwala, the label was born from her vision of creating beautifully crafted women's clothing that is trend-agnostic, timeless, and versatile.

A graduate of Parsons School of Design, New York, Khandwala blends India's textile heritage with a modern, architecture-inspired design language. Her collections, from reimagined saris to separates — are designed for how women live, move, and express themselves today.

The brand's growth reflects the success story detailed in Payal Khandwala's flagship expansion, demonstrating the designer's commitment to creating accessible luxury spaces.

With flagship stores in Mumbai and New Delhi and a growing global presence, Payal Khandwala has become a cultural touchstone for women who choose to define themselves on their own terms. The brand continues to evolve with collections like Release 13, reimagining timeless silk for contemporary wardrobes.
