Limited Manufacturing of the Mercedes-AMG ONE Hypercar Has Commenced

The first Mercedes-AMG ONE hypercar has begun manufacturing.

The first customer autos will be delivered in the second half of 2022.

MercedesAMG High Performance Powertrains in Brixworth, England, is building the Formula 1 hybrid powertrain with a 1.6-liter V6 turbo engine and four electric motors. MercedesAMG High Performance Powertrains is also responsible for developing and manufacturing the Power Units for the MercedesAMG Petronas F1 racing cars. The whole vehicle will be built in Coventry, England.

Special vehicles are assembled and tested manually at sixteen assembly and testing facilities. The external skin is initially built in its entirety. Parts, such as doors and hoods, are then hand-painted as a set for each particular car, ensuring a perfect colour match throughout. The engine and body-in-white are assembled in the following stages of construction: The 1.6-liter V6 turbo engine, the high-voltage battery, and all four electric machines were previously hot-tested on testbenches at Brixworth to ensure performance, much as Mercedes' Formula 1 Power Units. MercedesAMG High Performance Powertrains delivers the eTurbo hybrid combustion engine, the plug-in hybrid's high-voltage battery, the front axle with the two electric machines, and the power electronics, which includes inverters for each of the four electric motors. Over fifty people personally work on each Mercedes-AMG ONE.

The Mercedes hypercar will use racing technology. The carbon-fiber monocoque and body, the load-bearing engine/transmission unit, active aerodynamics, and push-rod suspension are all part of this. Because of its innovative technology, the Mercedes-AMG ONE offers even more than a Formula 1 racing car. It is equipped with AMG Performance 4MATIC+ completely variable all-wheel drive, a hybrid-powered back axle, and an electrically powered front axle with torque vectoring. It might possibly run entirely on electricity.

In all, 275 MercedesAMG ONE hypercars will be produced.

Each MercedesAMG ONE undergoes final acceptance testing by a factory test driver at a nearby testing facility, signalling the end of production. As soon as they approve clearance, the automobile is outfitted with appropriate transport protection and transported in a closed truck to the MercedesAMG headquarters in Affalterbach. Both the technical vehicle briefing by Mercedes-AMG ONE experts and the automobile handover take place at this site.
