Japanese Fashion Designer Nigo's Debut Kenzo Collection is Making News

Nigo's inaugural collection as French Luxury fashion house Kenzo's new Artistic Director has been revealed recently. 

According to a press release, the Fall-Winter 2022 women's and men's collections include jackets, workwear, knitwear, Japanese denim, accessories, shoes, and bags that reflect "a convergence between the Maison's tradition and his own modern norms."

The collection is a "fusion" of Japanese and Western fashion traditions.

Mix of Experience & Tradition

Nigo mixes the inspirations of his personal childhood and career with the tradition of Kenzo Takada in his debut collection for the Maison, creating a language for the Maison that looks to the future while learning from the past. The Artistic Director establishes a premise that connects and transcends cultural and traditional boundaries by fusing the syntax of the archives with his own sensibility.

The soundtrack of the performance also included an exclusive taste of Nigo's next album, I Know Nigo, which features A$AP Rocky, Kid Cudi, Pharrell Williams, Pusha T, Teriyaki Boyz, Tyler, the Creator, and Lil Uzi Vert.

Nigo, who took over from Felipe Oliviera Baptista, is the first Japanese designer to lead the company since creator Kenzo Takada, and one of only two Asian creative directors to lead a European luxury house.

Nigo is renowned with pioneering streetwear throughout the world with his independent apparel line, A Bathing Ape. The company was founded in Tokyo in 1993 and united the worlds of fashion and music before the creator departed in 2011 with the introduction of Human Made in 2010.
