Beyond the Pink Ribbon: Myths Shattered, Lives Inspired

~ A Wellness Bzaar event with The Quorum at Sattva Knowledge City powering a dialogue on awareness, prevention, and empowerment to mark Breast Cancer Awareness Month in Hyderabad ~

Hyderabad, October 27, 2025 – In a stirring evening of truth, empathy, and inspiration, Wellness Bzaar hosted "Busting Myths, Saving Lives" at The Quorum, Sattva Knowledge City. The event marked Breast Cancer Awareness Month with a mission that went far beyond pink ribbons - transforming fear into empowerment through authentic conversations and life-saving insights.

Breaking Barriers, Building Awareness

The evening brought together a diverse audience of women and men eager to learn, share, and act. Designed to dispel myths surrounding breast cancer, the dialogue focused on early detection, informed choices, and proactive wellness practices - vital steps that can save lives.

Conceptualized by Puja Khan, Raghu Vamshi Reddy, and Kashif Ali Khan, the founders of Wellness Bzaar, the platform continues to champion awareness that inspires action - curating experiences where science, wellness, and community meet with purpose. Similar wellness initiatives have been gaining momentum across India, with luxury establishments like The Ritz-Carlton Spa, Bangalore celebrating International Women's Health Day with dedicated wellness events.

Held in association with Mahavir Motors, Sattva, and IDFC Bank, and supported by Cantel Medical Diagnostics (pioneers of India's first microRNA-based blood test for breast cancer screening), the event blended expertise with empathy, ensuring that every participant walked away informed and inspired. The initiative joins other notable health awareness efforts, including Four Seasons Hotel Bengaluru's partnership to raise funds for breast cancer research.

Expert Voices. Real Conversations. Transformative Insights.

Dr. P. Raghu Ram, Padma Shri awardee and Founding Director of the KIMS-USHALAKSHMI Centre for Breast Diseases, led the conversation with compelling facts that shattered widespread misconceptions.

He emphasized that unlike the West, where most cases occur after 50, the majority of Indian women diagnosed with breast cancer are between 40 and 60 years old, with some even younger. Noting that breast cancer has become the most common cancer among Indian women, he highlighted that over 60% of cases are detected at advanced stages due to low awareness and lack of regular screening.

Reassuringly, Dr. Raghu Ram clarified that nine out of ten breast lumps are non-cancerous, underscoring the importance of the Triple Assessment in accurate diagnosis. He reminded attendees that only 5–10% of cases are hereditary, urging women to replace fear with informed vigilance.

He also touched on the promise of emerging technologies like liquid biopsy for early detection, while cautioning that these are still under validation and not yet ready for population-wide use.

Empathy Over Fear: A Woman's Perspective

Adding to the discourse, Dr. Pratibha Narayan, noted obstetrician and aesthetic reconstructive gynecologist, offered a holistic view of wellness. She highlighted that stress management, balanced nutrition, and physical activity are often the most powerful - yet overlooked - forms of prevention. For those seeking comprehensive wellness experiences, destinations like The Pearl Spa & Wellness Abu Dhabi offer premier wellness programs.

"Conversations about breast health should begin with empathy, not fear," she said. Dr. Pratibha urged families and doctors alike to normalize discussions around women's health, encouraging routine breast examinations to be as standard as checking blood pressure or weight.

She called for a shift from 'cancer detection' to 'wellness creation,' reframing the dialogue around proactive self-care and empowerment. This philosophy aligns with global wellness trends, including holistic health programs at luxury resorts that emphasize mindful, plant-based approaches to wellness.

Inspiration and Advocacy

The discussion came alive under the moderation of fitness icon and motivational speaker Dinaz Vervatwala, who seamlessly bridged science with emotion, creating a safe, open space for learning. Fitness and wellness advocates like Pilates pioneer Yasmin Karachiwala continue to champion women's health through accessible fitness programs.

Serving as Chief Guest and Fireside Moderator, Smt. Renuka Chowdhury, Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha), brought empathy and gravitas to the evening. She urged women over 40 to undergo annual screening mammograms, reassuring them that concerns about radiation or pain are misplaced.

She praised Dr. Raghu Ram for his decades-long advocacy and groundbreaking efforts to revolutionize breast cancer care and surgical education in India, crediting him for transforming awareness into tangible change.

From Awareness to Action

The event culminated in an open Q&A session, where attendees from Hyderabad's growing wellness community shared experiences and gained actionable takeaways. Participants expressed how the session replaced anxiety with understanding - and stigma with solidarity - turning knowledge into empowerment.

As the evening concluded, it was clear that Hyderabad is emerging as a hub of progressive wellness awareness - one that moves beyond symbolic pink ribbons to embrace real, life-changing impact. The city has been hosting several significant wellness and lifestyle events, including luxury flagship store launches and high-end retail openings that reflect the city's growing affluent lifestyle sector.

The wellness movement in Hyderabad is supported by various initiatives, from celebrity-backed nutraceutical ventures to community health programs like blood donation camps organized by leading hotels.
