Atmosphere Core Wins Two SATA 2026 Awards as Its Hospitality Ambitions Extend Beyond the Maldives

LUXURY HOSPITALITY | MALDIVES | OCTOBER 2026

Maldives-based hospitality group Atmosphere Core has secured two Gold honours at the South Asian Travel Awards (SATA) 2026, winning Leading Resort/Hotel Brand and Leading Hospitality Development Company.

Announced at the tenth edition of the awards, held at Barceló Nasandhura Malé, the recognitions acknowledge both the group's established resort operations and its growing hospitality development business. That record already includes the World Travel Awards recognition for Atmosphere Kanifushi.

The timing is significant. Atmosphere Core is moving beyond its original Maldives resort base, expanding across India while making its first entry into Europe's heritage hospitality market.

Two Awards, Two Dimensions of Growth

The Leading Resort/Hotel Brand recognition reflects Atmosphere Core's established position in the Maldives, where it operates across several distinct hospitality concepts.

Its portfolio includes THE OZEN COLLECTION, COLOURS OF OBLU, Atmosphere Hotels & Resorts and ONE Atmosphere. THE OZEN COLLECTION has itself announced expansion plans including two new hotel properties.

Rather than consolidating its properties under a single identity, the company has developed multiple brands targeting different guest expectations, travel occasions and hospitality formats.

The second honour, Leading Hospitality Development Company, is particularly relevant to the group's ambitions beyond its home market.

It recognises a business increasingly focused on management partnerships, new developments and geographically diversified hotel operations, a push that earlier saw Cyrus Madan join as Senior Vice President to boost business development.

From Maldivian Islands to Italian Heritage

One of Atmosphere Core's most consequential developments in 2026 has been its European debut with Borgo Monchiero Heritage by Atmosphere.

Located in Piedmont's Langhe region, the property occupies a restored eighteenth-century monastery, bringing the group's management approach into a fundamentally different hospitality category.

The 25-room-and-suite heritage retreat combines historic architecture, regional gastronomy, wine experiences and contemporary wellness. It marked its European opening in July 2026.

The transition from Maldivian island resorts to an Italian heritage property is strategically important. Managing a destination resort and operating within a protected historic environment require different approaches to guest expectations, conservation and operating economics.

Borgo Monchiero therefore represents more than an additional property. It tests Atmosphere Core's ability to translate its hospitality philosophy across cultures and asset types.

India Becomes a Major Expansion Market

India forms another substantial part of the company's growth strategy, building on the launch of COLORS OF OBLU in India.

Atmosphere Core's announced development pipeline includes Bengaluru, Bhubaneswar, Coorg, Goa, Jaipur, Jaisalmer, Kolkata, Shillong and several other destinations.

The group has also announced the 180-key Atmosphere Hillora Eco Resort in Visakhapatnam, developed in partnership with A V N G Developers LLP and scheduled to open in the first quarter of 2029.

This expansion presents an opportunity to build beyond the group's established leisure resort expertise into a broader mix of heritage, urban and destination hospitality.

However, announced development pipelines should not be confused with operating inventory. Actual openings, project economics and long-term management performance will determine the commercial success of the strategy.

Recognition Is Valuable. Execution Will Matter More.

Commenting on the two awards, Salil Panigrahi, Co-Founder and Managing Director of Atmosphere Core, credited the group's teams, guests and partners for supporting its growth.

For Atmosphere Core, the greater strategic opportunity lies in establishing a hospitality platform whose individual brands can operate successfully across very different markets.

The SATA recognitions provide visibility and industry validation, much as OBLU SELECT Lobigili named finest new hotel did in the 2023 Travellers' Choice Awards. The more consequential measure will be whether Atmosphere Core can preserve its service standards, achieve attractive operating performance and establish meaningful differentiation as its portfolio expands.

The next chapter is less about how many hotels Atmosphere Core signs and more about how effectively it converts its Maldives expertise into an international hospitality business.
