Atmosphere Core Appoints David Alan Burley as General Manager of OBLU XPERIENCE Ailafushi & OBLU SELECT Lobigili

Maldives, 21 January 2026 – In a strategic leadership move that underscores its focus on experience-driven hospitality, Atmosphere Core has announced the appointment of David Alan Burley as General Manager of OBLU XPERIENCE Ailafushi and OBLU SELECT Lobigili, two distinctive island resorts under the COLOURS OF OBLU brand umbrella.

In his new role, Burley will spearhead resort operations, lead multidisciplinary teams, and guide both properties through their next phase of growth, anchored in operational excellence, service culture, and guest-centric innovation, joining Atmosphere Core's expanding leadership team.

A Global Hospitality Leader with a People-First Philosophy

Burley brings a formidable international pedigree to the Maldives, having held senior leadership positions across the Caribbean, China, France, the Middle East, and the United Kingdom with globally respected hospitality brands. This breadth of exposure has shaped a balanced leadership style, strategic yet empathetic, grounded in operational rigour and a deep understanding of diverse guest expectations.

His appointment is expected to further elevate standards across both resorts, strengthen team engagement, and enhance the experiential DNA that defines the COLOURS OF OBLU portfolio, complementing experiences at sister properties including OBLU SELECT Sangeli wellness retreat and other mesmerizing Maldives properties.

Leadership Vision Rooted in Experience

Commenting on his appointment, David Alan Burley said: "OBLU XPERIENCE Ailafushi and OBLU SELECT Lobigili represent two vibrant expressions of Atmosphere Core's commitment to experience-led hospitality. I look forward to working closely with the teams to build on the strong foundations already in place, with a focus on consistency, service culture, and creating meaningful, memorable experiences for our guests."

Both properties have already established strong reputations, with Only BLU, the largest underwater restaurant in the Maldives operating at both resorts, and OBLU XPERIENCE Ailafushi serving as the final stop for the first traveler to visit every nation without flying.

A Strategic Fit for the Brand's Growth Trajectory

Welcoming Burley to the leadership team, Ashwin Handa, Chief Operating Officer of Atmosphere Core, noted: "David's global experience and operational insight bring balance and maturity to our resort leadership. Both OBLU XPERIENCE Ailafushi and OBLU SELECT Lobigili will benefit from his people-first mindset and his ability to unite teams around a shared vision. We are confident he will continue to drive service excellence, strengthen culture, and lead with purpose."

This appointment reflects Atmosphere Core's strategic focus on elevating hospitality leadership with visionaries and follows recent leadership additions including Maurice Van Den Bosch as GM of RAAYA by Atmosphere.

Guests at both properties can experience diverse offerings, from soulful wellness retreats at OBLU XPERIENCE Ailafushi to festive celebrations across the Maldives, alongside ultimate summer luxury experiences and transformative Maldivian paradise escapes.
